Without a doubt, the most riveting presentation I heard last week, at the AICPA's 3-day National Forensic Accounting Conference held in Chicago, was delivered by Anton (Tony) R. Valukas, author of the Lehman Brothers Examiner's Report, also called the Valukas report. He spoke to the 500+ attendees about the huge, coordinated effort he led in his role as court-appointed examiner for the Lehman bankruptcy proceedings which began in 2008. He emphasized the key roles played by the many forensic accountants he and his team relied upon throughout the course of the assignment.
The bankruptcy judge in the Lehman Brothers case, the largest bankruptcy in U.S. history, said the Valukas report was "...one of the most extraordinary pieces of work-product I've ever encountered."
A quick Google search led me to the entire Valukas report, which appears to be several thousand pages long. Here is the link: Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. Chapter 11 Proceedings Examiner’s Report. Also, here's an overview of the the Lehman Brothers saga, and a very interesting 2009 Chicago Lawyer article about Tony Valukas.
